The Independence Party of New York is, like the Conservative Party of New York, a single-state political party.

2016 Endorsement of Gary Johnson

In 2016 the Independence Party of New York endorsed Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson for President.[1] This was the first time another political party endorsed a Libertarian Presidential candidate. Gary Johnson's name appeared on the New York ballot twice, but the votes from each line were not added together because the Independence Party submitted a slate of delegates that differed from the slate submitted by the Libertarian Party.[2] The effect of this is that Gary Johnson run against himself in New York.

With 431,787 registered voters in New York state, the New York Independence Party had 20,000 more registered voters in New York than the Libertarian Party did nationally.[3]
