Kate O'Brien is a civil/structural engineer from Simi Valley, California. She became a member of the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District Board of Directors in 2000. In 2007, O'Brien served as Chair of the park district. O'Brien currently serves as Vice-Chair of the park district and is a member of the Advance Planning, Finance, and Historical committees as well as the Ad Hoc Special Needs committee.

O'Brien was originally a music major (piano) at San Francisco State University. She graduated from Cogswell Polytechnical College with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering technology.
