At a meeting in Westminster Colorado on August 12, 1996, August 15, 1996 was declared by the City of Westminster to be Libertarian Party Day in honor of the 25th anniversary of the meeting at David Nolan's Westminster home in which it was decided to pursue the idea of a Libertarian political party. The official Committee decision to actually form the Party took place later in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Contrary to "urban legend", there was never a sign erected in Westminster stating "Birthplace of the Libertarian Party". [1]
