Libertarian Party of California

Not long after the formation of the national Libertarian Party, the California party was organized. After the LP of California gained ballot access, Mark Hinkle served as the campaign manager in the first partisan election in the state in which a candidate appeared as a Libertarian on the ballot. The campaign (Bill White for State Senate in 1980) received 13% of the vote. Hinkle went on to serve as the Fund-Raising Chair, Newsletter Chair, Northern Vice-Chair, and Chairman of the Libertarian Party of California for a total of 6 years. He served more than 25 years on the California Executive Committee. From 2008 - 2010, he also served as the Judicial Committee Chair.

As a result, a record number of Libertarians were elected to office in California via Operation Breakthrough. In addition, a party office was opened and an executive director was hired.
