The Reform Caucus of California is a caucus within the Libertarian Party of California. It is the second caucus to carry the Reform Caucus name, and was inspired by the first.

Brief History

The Reform Caucus of California is a caucus formed on June 12, 2019 within the Libertarian Party of California by Brandon Nelson, Kenneth Brent Olsen, Matyas Homer, and other party members who opposed the decision of the Judicial Committee of the Libertarian Party of California on June 10, 2019, to overturn the vote of the delegates at the delete the Platform at the California Convention 2019 in Concord, California. It was named after the Reform Caucus, which was behind the so-called "Portland Massacre" in 2006 at the National Convention 2006, when the national Platform was changed dramatically.

Ideology

Reform Caucus Makeup

Unlike the predecessor it was named after, the Reform Caucus of California is not opposed to anarchists. Its membership includes Libertarians from throughout the libertarian ideological spectrum. It includes minarchists, pragmatists, anarcho-capitalists, classical liberals, and other ideological types of Libertarians.

Reform Caucus of California Statement of Principles

The Reform Caucus of California has adopted the following Statement of Principles:

"The Reform Caucus of California is dedicated to the reformation of the Libertarian Party of California in a manner that focuses on making us an effective political party rather than a social club. We affirm that a political party's goal is to disseminate its principles and to get candidates elected. We believe that California needs a Libertarian Party; a party that promotes liberty and is designated to win elections in the state of California."

Move for County Organizations to Officially Repudiate the Decision of the Judicial Committee and Not Accept the Libertarian Party of California Platform

On June 12, 2019, the founders of the caucus wrote a resolution and sent it to various county organizations for consideration. It was first adopted by the Libertarian Party of Fresno County on June 13, 2019. It is currently under consideration by the Libertarian Party of Kings County and the Libertarian Party of Solano County. The resolution reads as follows:

We, the undersigned county Executive Committees of the Libertarian Party, hereby sign onto the following resolution:

Whereas, the Libertarian Party of California’s Judicial Committee has ruled against a decision made by a quorum of delegates at the Libertarian Party of California Convention in 2019,

Whereas, the Libertarian Party of California’s Judicial Committee has callously ignored the will of the membership body of the Libertarian Party of California,

Whereas, the Libertarian Party of California’s Judicial Committee has been found to no longer represent the will of LPC members nor the best interests of the Party,

We, the undersigned county Executive Committees of the Libertarian Party hereby resolve to repudiate and refuse to recognize the decision of the Libertarian Party of California’s Judicial Committee overturning the deletion of the previous Libertarian Party of California Platform.

Signed,
