The Libertarian Party of New York's Rules Committee is tasked with reviewing and recommending amendments to the party rules. The committee has existed in various forms over the history of the party. On November 11, 2019, a committee was started by the State Committee called the "Party Rules Committee." This committee was dissolved on June 2, 2019. A new Rules Committee was established in 2019.
History
The first mention of any bylaws or rules committee was in the September 1973 issue of the Free Libertarian Newsletter, in which Bob Cassella was appointed chair to replace Paul Lepanto.
The committee existed in different ways over the years, including a committee in 2015 that discussed bylaws after an in-person meeting in Utica, and the FLP bylaws were amended for a final time in 2016.
A Party Rules Committee was established in November 2018, and existed in different capacities afterward. The Party Rules Committee under the FLP was dissolved on June 2, 2019.
On February 24, 2019, a committee was created by the Interim State Committee in which Fred Cole and Mark Glogowski were nominated and accepted to chair the committee. Gary Popkin was nominated but declined. Cole was elected Chair by a vote of 8-7-2. The committee had little activity until the spring of 2020 and no such meeting is known to have been held until April 14, 2020, although there were discussions going back to March 2020 among those who later became members of the committee.
Currently, the committee is chaired by Andrew Kolstee.
